How to create a Windows Recovery Disc

Today, in this very short tutorial blog post, I am going to guide you through how to create your very own Windows recovery disc. The disc is intended to be used to recover a Windows based system when all other methods have been unsuccessful and this is your last resort.

I will be creating recovery media for Windows 10 & 7 on DVD and a USB drive. The Windows 10 steps are the same for Windows 8.1.

Windows 10

Step One

First step click the Start button.

Step Two

Create A Recovery Drive Search Image

Type create a recovery drive in the search box. Then click on create a recovery drive.

Step Three

User Account Control Image

Now click yes on the User Account Control dialogue box to continue.

Step Four

As you can see, the recovery drive wizard has been displayed. Just leave Backup system files to the recovery drive, check box ticked and then click on next.

The backup preparation process has now begun.

Step Six

Now that the backup preparation process is completed. Insert a USB stick of at least 4GB in size. Then click next.

As you can see, Windows is now scanning for USB drives that have been plugged in to the computer.

Step Eight

Windows has now found the USB drive, I plugged into the computer. Click next to continue.

Step Nine

This dialogue box is warning the user that any current data that is on the drive will be lost, due to the drive been formatted. Now click on create.

Step Ten

As you can see, the creation of the recovery drive has started, and the copying of the system has begun.

Step Eleven

As you can see, the creation of the recovery drive has finished successfully.

That’s it, you have now successfully created a system repair disc.

Windows 7

Step One

First click the Start button.

Step Two

Type create in the search box. Then click on create a system repair disc.

Step Three

Now insert a blank disc, I am using a DVD as the storage is much larger than a CD. Then click Create disc.

Step Four

As you can see, the disc is been created.

Step Five

Now just click OK to close the window.

Step Six

The disc has now finished been created. Now just click on close, then eject the disc from the drive and label the disc as advised.

That’s it, you have now successfully created a system repair disc.
